if you were only a cloud

no you can’t be a cloud
God didn’t want you that way

no

he saw you
he saw you
and he thought to himself

this one needs eyes
brown ones
i want to show you what I made
i love you and want to show you
i love you and want to show you and want you to be glad in what I made
he saw your eyes
the way they lit up when you saw what he made–the clouds in the sky, the animals on the ground he saw you and loved you

and then he thought to himself

this one needs ears
big ones
i want you to hear what I made
i love you and want to show you and want you to hear and be glad in what I made
he heard you
the music of the birds and the movement of the waves that you yearned to dance along with and he saw you, he heard you and loved you

then he thought to himself

this one needs hands and feet wild ones

i want you to feel what I have made
i love you and want to show you and want you to hear and want you to feel and be glad in what I made
he felt you
your gentle caress like a blanket over his creation
and he saw you, he heard you, he felt you and loved you

and then he thought to himself

this one needs a name
a powerful one
i want you to be mine, a special creation
i love you and want to show you and want you to hear and want you to feel and want you to be mine and be glad in what I made
he named you
in boldness you defied what he had made and you were a special creation

and he saw you, he heard you, he felt you, he named you and he loved you because he thought to himself
what good would be the world I created
what good would be the world

if you were only a cloud
